Li Tangting (b. 1990, Liaoning, China) graduated from the Sculpture program at the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 2015. From 2016 to 2024, he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in Germany, under the tutelage of Professors Thomas Grünfeld and Rita McBride. He has been featured in exhibitions at G Museum, Nanjing; Weiden Space, Düsseldorf; Langfeng Art Gallery, Shanghai; Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf; and Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts Museum, Shenyang; among others. He currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Li Tangting’s multidisciplinary practice now centers on painting, where he examines the complexities of pictorial language and the temporal structures of history. He conceives of art history as a generative system—one of origin, production, and replication—constantly oscillating between fragmentation and unity. Through his painterly process, he seeks to expose the mechanisms underlying image-making, reconstructing painting’s relationship to the subconscious, temporality, and materiality, while challenging habitual frameworks and inherited vocabularies.
